Malaika's Picture---> Sabhat's Thoughts!

Once upon a time...in a land not too far away...there was an artist named Malaika, who was obviously better at art than someone (cough cough...me...cough cough). She created a fantastic picture, that compelled someone (once again, cough cough...me...) to write a blog (and I'm not only writing this because I have too).

You may wonder why I started with "once upon a time," well it's because this picture is obviously conveying a fairytale ending! The prince and the princess, walk away into the sunset (I would normally say ride away, like on a horse, but there is no horse-oh well...), and it's a happily ever after! It can't be a happy ever after without some sort of evil person trying to ruin the day. Sigh...evil people....

So, the art aspect of your picture, takes my breath away (don't worry, I'm still alive)! It's amazing! The reason why I love it so much (and picked this picture) is because of the lack of blandness. Let me explain, I am a girl who enjoys many coloured things; vibrant, neon, patterns, rainbow, anything really! I was so glad to see that you went with the colourful vibe (vibe...sounds kind of 70's)! I like how the sun isn't one colour throughout,  it was a bit risky putting the green in there, but you made it work.  I love how you added the black,  brown, and green, yet you still maintained that warm, cozy, happily ever after feel to the picture! I also enjoy how the rays of lights coming from  the sun are swirly instead of straight (I do love curliness)!

Fairytale beginning...check... brief explanation...check...commentary on the art aspect...check...what's left? Oh yes! The morality aspect! Well, your picture does have a hidden message to me. It's a representation. Let's pretend this is the story of Cinderella. The hills are the evil stepmother and her horrendous daughters, getting in the way of Cinderella's dreams. The sun is the fairy god mother, always there (even if you can't see her), shining her light on Cinderella. Then there's the Prince and Cinderella of course! They keep moving forward, even though there are large hills in their way. With each other they can do anything! Isn't that sweet?

How can I have a blog without asking you some questions? Well, I can have a blog without questions, but, I will ask you questions. I was going to ask you what the picture you used as inspiration look liked. Then I realized that you stayed in your class! So here's my question for you: Did you have any picture that you used as inspiration? If so, what did it look like? Have you ever been to the Neilson Art Center (I'm guessing you have)? Do you like it better in class or at the actual gallery? What do you think you could've done to make this picture better? Why did you choose a sunset as opposed to a bright sun in the sky? Is it just because you think the sunset is prettier, or do you have any other reason? Are the couple in the right corner going for a random stroll or does this stroll have purpose? As in, are they going somewhere? Perhaps, on a journey? Maybe to the castle?

Well, I had fun writing this blog, but all good things come to an end. I have to say that your picture is beautiful! My conclusion is that you're good at art. It must be a nice skill to have. I really feel that you've created something that is different than many pictures. The vibrancy of it, has to be my favourite. It's colourful, but not to overdone. It's like a model, it looks beautiful, but when you decide to put toooooo much makeup on it...YIKES! Bye! See ya on...well...most school days..err...um...awkward... (I'm not very good with good byes). So, BYE!

P.S. I put a picture of Cinderella because I'm a thoughtful and considerate person. I figured that those who have never seen Cinderella may want to see her (and this picture saves them the hassle of going to Google Images and searching it up). Kidding! I just wanted to add another picture....and also what I said earlier...that too...ADIOS (Spanish...see, I decided to go for a fancy and foreign goodbye)!

P.P.S I just realized, if you are Spanish my attempt of giving you a foreign goodbye has failed. However, you don't seem to be Spanish (but if you are, I guess, that I just gave you a normal goodbye....oh well).

P.P.P.S Here's Malaika's other picture! I did NOT put this because I wanted to add another picture. Fine, maybe I did. Anyways, marvel at its awesomeness!

The Tashifa Times-Ameena's Art

Today, in the Tashifa Times, we have one article by me (like always)! I made a newspaper dedicated to commenting on art work- that I really, really like! This art work is actually from our own blogs, and today the one who gets the pleasure of being talked about is Ameena Khan. So, let's get this going! I'll be nice.

Art Corner

Ameena Khan, I barely know your personal tastes! But, I have decided I like you already! You see, from the small list of things I adore, there is space! You did two whole paintings on space! Yay! They are really thought provoking.
When I see your painting, there's not a thing that I would change. 'Cause their amazing, just the way they are. And when you draw stars that shoot across the sky. The whole world stops and stands for a while. 'Cause painting, your amazing. Just the way you are.
Ya, I bet I could get a record deal for that. Just one of my many talents (failures T.T). So, I'm going to show some extra love for your paintings. When I look at them, seriously, I'm in awe. They make you imagine a world beyond the limits of ours. A whole universe! The concept of the painting makes me smile. You Ameena, are really good at capturing something beautiful. I like how in the first painting you showed the Earth, and a shuttle on the moon. Then, filled that empty space between the moon and Earth with shooting stars. Beautiful. The shading is also really nice. How, you didn't add the blue in the Earth, but kept it green. Yet, to show differences, you did a great job with shading. There beside the shuttle, I just noticed a man. That's just really nice. A space exploration, and to top it off a great show of shooting stars. Even though the man is faceless, and looks like a typical stick figure, his position seems to be expressing happiness. I also like how you kept it simple, and left the mind of the viewer to take the painting into detail. Hey, Ameena, what did YOU feel while painting this?
Now, let's not forget about your awesome imitation of a meteor shower. The colours are perfect, and seem to, somehow, work together, I like how you also chose to have more diversity in the background colours. It really allows the whole painting to shine. The streak that's behind the meteors is really nice, it gives off a nice affect. Making it look as if it's going fast, movement! So pretty! This one makes me feel all giddy, I really want to see a meteor shower one day. It also looks fast paced, and bright. Both paintings, though, giving me a feeling of curiosity. Ameena, I'm not sure if you're giving a story, but just a message. On the beauty of the world. I really like your paintings, they shine like the stars and the moon, and the fire streaked path of the meteor. Wait, I just realized, is it an asteroid? Oh well, really pretty indeed.
I always wanted to go into space, but then I was scared I met get lost and die. Happy ending! Yet, Ameena really captured a nice image. Hey, do you adore space like me? :D

Hey, I actually sounded like a sane, almost intelligent person during most of this article! Cool! No artistically challenged-ness here! Hey, another cheesy art joke: The Mona Lisa was brought up in court on charges of murder,-but it turned out that she'd been framed...
Art, so wonderful, you can make anyone feel any way. I love to see it, hate (actually, toning it down to dislike) to do it. Another challenge we face everyday (especially since it's a subject in school) ... So, bye!

The Tashifa Times-Maliaka's Art

Today, our one and only (literally) reporter Tashifa Imtiaz visited a website! Hooray! Well, let's fake this as if it was an art gallery! Our brilliant reporter, (who knows just as much about art as insert someone clueless about art here) Tashifa Imtiaz, will be telling us about some of the work that really spoke to her. So read on!

Art's Corner

When the sound of art calls, I run away from it, -as far as possible! Yet, while searching the art gallery (our blogs), I found something that really stood out to me! Miss Maliaka, I don't know your last name, your art is beautiful. Believe me, I hate making art, but looking at it is easier! You clearly have a talent for this subject. You see, in my experience at the Neilson Art Centre, I too had done something similar to the sun and such, and I am astonished by your skills. Maliaka, dear friend, -that I don't know too well-, I've seen your work before, like while in Ms. Walton's room for DDM (don't ask how), and I always thought you were talented. So, now, enough praising, and to the paintings.
The first one, it has such a brilliant mix of colours! I'm going to be poetic, and sound smart and less snotty! The many shades of purple, remind me of the sublime aroma of the lavender flower. It's definitely pleasing. Back to my snotty language, it's hard work sounding smart!I really like how you did the hills, the shading is really well done. When I look at the silhouettes, it's almost...as if a small cloud of calm has floated upon me. The picture complements every element of itself so well. The colours, and the shapes fit in like a puzzle with no absolute order. I can only assume as if it's night, not exactly sure which point.Yet, the colours remind me of almost sunrise. Your painting is giving me mixed emotions, a sudden calmness, an eerie feeling, and also feeling lost. I think the lost feeling is for that there in no definite place you have made, and how it almost seems unrealistic? The trees are beautiful as well, there aren't too many trees, letting the painting feel open. I also really like how you made a few swirls on the branched, it makes the painting flow all the much better. The characters in the painting, even though their silhouettes, seem to show a lot of detail. I can see one of them is a girl with curly hair, and the other could be a  boy. It seems to be telling a story, and looks as if the curly haired girl is helping up the other person. But, the painting is an amazing piece of art all the way!
Now, I loved both your paintings, so I'm commenting on both! You can clearly see the resemblance between both paintings, the swirls, sun, hills and the silhouettes. Ahhh, I see the silhouettes have walked off, and there's some love in the air. Cute! Your colours changed, but again have the same affect, of calmness. This picture sends me a more warm and comfortable feeling, possibly since you used more warm shades than cool (unlike the other painting). The sun, the way the colours work and everything, makes me feel as if I'm on Earth or on some alien planet! I just love how everything somehow balances, even though the sun's huge, and the people small (wait, that's how it is in real life), everything seems to work. You know how I feel, but what did you feel wile making this? How did your thought prcess work while making tis?
Art is such a weird language, reminds me of French, except easier to understand and relate to. I guess it all depends on how the person sees it and how they then feel it! I'm so glad I didn't get in to this; people would feel barf coming up their throats. But Maliaka, your painting are gorgeous and I guarantee you are not artistically challenged!

So, that was the story of the amazing paintings. I have learned today that art...is very nice to look at, and painful to do yourself! Oh well, it really is a wonder how these people do it! Magicians...ahhh...oh well! Wait! Lame art joke for you: Why was the art dealer in debt?- He didn't have any Monet
Haha....Bye!

Sion's thought about Gregory's drawing

Hey Gregory! Let me just call you Greg in this blog, just to save space. Anyway, hey, it's Sion! I wanted to blog about this awesome-looking picture you drew. So here goes! Let me start off by saying again that it looks really cool! I really like that car with wings flying above the people playing football on the field. There's also the scoreboard that's flying with rocket boosters! How cool is that? Finally, there is a big blue circle at the top right-hand corner of the page.

The inferences I made leads me to a couple of questions. Firstly, what exactly IS the big blue circle at the corner of the page? If it's the sun, then why did you color it blue? If it's not, then what is it? Also, I noticed that the flying score board shows the home team is NK, and the away team is SF. This leads me to wonder, what do they stand for? Does it stand for North Kipling and SmithField? If it does, then not only does it make sense, it also is very funny. It would also be unique, because you put something on your artwork that only a few group of people would understand. However, if it doesn't stand for North Kipling and Smithfield, what does it stand for?

Finally, I noticed that the people are playing football, and the goalpost is on top of a hill. This leads to my last question, why did you make it a hill instead of a plain field, which is more common? Was there a special reason? If there was, what was it?

In conclusion, I would like to say one more time that your picture looks very unique and cool. I loved every moment of commenting about it and hope that I can do it again!

P.S I never said your name in my whole blog, so there was really no point in me saying that I'd call you Greg was there? haha...

Sion's thoughts about Shanthosh's picture

Hey Shanthosh! I see you also went to the Neilson art centre and drew a picture! Let me start off this blog by saying that it looks great. I really like how there is one giant face-like picture practically in the center of the whole paper. It drags and observer's attention towards it. The background also is very original, with different colors yellow, orange and purple. The background is divided into three triangles, all a different size, with the three colors in it. The face appears to have wings where the ears are supposed to be, with a halo as well. Both the wings and halo are black in color.

I inferred that there seems to be a football flying near the face. This leads to my first question, Why is there a football there? It even has the face's attention, so is the face supposed to catch it? Speaking of the face, with all the things I inferred about it,(which I mentioned previously) is it supposed to be an angel? Or is it something that you imagined, all from scratch?

This picture is so unique, I can't imagine what your inspirational picture would have been! Was it this unique? Or was there a special quality to your inspirational picture that you noticed? If it was, then what was it?

In conclusion, I found your picture not only unique, but also very abstract and cool. It was a pleasure blogging about your picture, and I wouldn't be surprised if you became an artist!

P.S I like the buck-teeth on the
P.P.S Let's go football!

TK's Picture---Abdul's Thoughts

TK, to start off, I would just like to say that your picture looks amazing.  You used such a simple drawing style, but produced excellent results.  One thing that makes your picture so great is the message behind it and the “What is it to you?”  At first, I thought it was just there for randomness, but when I thought just a little bit about your picture, it made perfect sense.  This picture provides a truly important message.  Did you think about the meaning behind “What is it to you?” or did you unintentionally put it in just out of randomness and fun?  I heard that your class didn’t get to go to the actual Art Center, but rather did the program in class.  Have you been to the actual center?  If so, how do you find doing the program at the center, vs. doing it in class?  Is it better, or worse?  Personally, one thing I don’t like about going to the center is the commute because by the time we arrive, there is only a little bit of time left; however, what makes up for it is the gallery and set-up/environment of the center.

You might be wondering what message I am talking about so I shall explain.  In our world, everyone is different, no two groups, or even people in a group, for that matter, are the same.  So the question arises, “What is normal and right?”   Well, the visible majority becomes right and thus many are “abnormal.”  These “abnormalities” cause disputes, and discrimination.  They start off with little things and eventually become enormous conflicts.  In our world, there is a lot of discrimination, and your picture shows just what should be thought, “What is it to you?”  In your picture, the two shapes have similarities and differences.  One is red, and one is blue.  One is circle and one is rectangle.  One it this and one is that.  It is similar to our world where all humans are basically the same, but have slight differences which are made a big deal.  “He is black, and he is white.”  She is Jewish and she is Catholic.”  “He is this and he is that.”  It is the same concept.  Both figures are also sad, which shows just what happens when there is discrimination; sadness spreads, among all.  Your message at the bottom just ties it all together, “What is it to you?”  It is like the ice cream on a cone.  It just brings everything together and magnifies the greatness.  It tells us what we should really think about when there is discrimination, “What IS it to us?”

Your border also shows a similar concept as there are only four triangles, among numerous circles.  They are the minority, over powered by the majority.  This is similar to our world.  Furthermore, although the minority has something in common (in this case, being triangles), they too have their differences (in this case, not all four are the same colour).  This is a great representation of what really happens.  Furthermore, the shapes aren’t mixed in together, but are rather living in pockets, just like what happens in cities.  People who have things in common live together.

Overall, I think your artwork is both great, and beholds a great message that we all need to understand.  I would really like to know what you thought about the program being in school vs. the center.  Anyways, that’s all for now,

---------Abdul

P.S.         At first, I thought you were just fooling around with the SpongeBob reference of “What’s it to you.

P.P.S.      People were complaining about how my other posts were too long so I made this one shorter.

P.P.P.S.   What is your real name?  I heard it’s very long.

Jay's Picture---Abdul's Thoughts

Jay, to start off, I would like to tell you that your picture looks amazing.  Even with such a simple drawing style, you produced excellent results.  What probably makes your picture so great is the intrigue and messages behind it.  Did you think about your picture in that way?  I heard that your class didn’t get to go to the actual Art Center, but rather did the program in class.  Have you been to the actual center?  If so, how do you find doing the program at the center, vs. doing it in class?  Is it better, or worse?  Personally, one thing I don’t like about going to the center is the commute because by the time we arrive, there is only a little bit of time left; however, what makes up for it is the gallery and set-up/environment of the center.

In your picture I can see/find many different messages. Is it the same for you?  One message I see is about (similar to this week’s bullying presentation), “The power of one.”  Everyone has the power to make a difference because we all have the power of one.  That is evident here.  In your picture, it seems as though the flower in the foreground is singing while all the flowers in the background are dancing (because of the way some are slightly tilted and the stems look like arms).  The flower in the foreground used to be an average flower, but used its “Power of one” and is now a leader, almost making everyone else follow him, rather than just being normal.  However, he is not doing it by using force, but is rather using his abilities and voice to do it.  The one plant changed everyone around it.  It goes to show you that you don’t just need to be an average Joe; use your power of one and shine.

One more message is that you don’t need to blend in with the rest, you are unique and you need to show that uniqueness. I see this because while all the other plants in the background are being “ordinary Joes,” the one in the centre is showing his true identity and is being himself.  He isn’t following the crowd, but is rather being who he is and because of that, all attention is on him, not on the people who just blend in.  After all, “Why be the same?”

Another message I see is that music, and the arts in general are a powerful thing.  This can be seen when the foreground flower is making music, while everyone else is following him (dancing).  You don’t need strength to be a leader; you need to have good characteristics.  In this world, it is not the strongest who are the leaders, but rather the smartest, the ones that can make themselves look like the “stronger,” and “higher.”  This is the same in many animals.  For example, with chimpanzees, the one who makes themselves seem the highest on their “social scale” is the leader, not the strongest one. After all, neither Hulk, Iron Man nor Thor, lead the Avengers, it is Captain America.  It just shows you how powerful things such as music can be.

Overall, I think your artwork is both great, and beholds great messages.  I would really like to know what you thought about the program being in school vs. the center.  Anyways, that’s all for now,

------------Abdul

P.S.      The moon looks like it has wings

P.P.S.   People were complaining about how my other posts were too long so I made this one shorter.
